Add RS-232 DCE serial communications support to a desktop or laptop via a USB Type-A port with this StarTech.com Null Modem USB Serial Adapter. Designed to resolve DCE/DTE conflicts without additional cross-wired cables, the adapter delivers a DB9 (DE-9) female serial connection using the FTDI FT232R chipset for stable data transfer. COM retention maintains consistent COM port assignment when disconnected or reconnected. The adapter includes pre-installed and removable slotted D-Sub thumbscrews and DB9 nuts for broad device compatibility, while data transmission, receive and USB LEDs provide real-time port activity diagnostics. Built for reliability, the cable features a molded TPE jacket, Level-4 ESD protection (15kV air / 8kV contact), copper shielding to minimize EMI/RFI, and gold-plated connectors to improve conductivity. Drivers auto-install on Windows 7 and newer, macOS 10.15 and above, and Linux; compatible with ChromeOS. Product is supported by a 2-year limited warranty.
